Recruitment & Volunteers » Training

Avocet provides mandatory training for all staff before they can work within services. This is completed within new staff’s two week induction programme. The initial training is as follows: Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Infection Control, First Aid, Manual Handling, Food Hygiene, Epilepsy Awareness, Deprivation of Liberty, Mental Capacity Act, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, Medication Awareness and Non Violent Crisis Intervention.

Staff are also expected to complete the Learning Disability Qualification during their 26 week probationary period. This leads staff onto NVQ training. Once staff are working in service they also have access to service user specific training. This includes (but is not an exhaustive list) Autism Awareness, PICA, Makaton, Abdominal Massage, Postural Management, Intensive Interaction, Foot Care and Nutrition and Diet.
